Workshops for kids

Rita offers youngsters the chance to imagine new worlds and invent engaging characters in sessions that can last from half a day to a week. Her writing prompts will set creative juices flowing and let participants develop their language arts skills. Some of her workshops include:

Creating a Great Character
Rita presents her Character Builder techniques to help students create interesting heroes and anti-heroes with motives and desires. Sparks fly when characters meet and a story develops. For Grades 4-7.

Let's Time Travel and Set a Scene
Using authentic photographs from Alberta's history, Rita works with students to create a rich, sensory scene with characters ready to tell a story. For Grades 4-7.

Newspaper Writing Styles
News story or feature article? How many of the 5Ws do you stick in the lede? Why is it called a lede? With her journalism background, Rita answers these questions and more as she helps students create clear, effective writing.
